About Chris

Chris Bair is a technology and computer geek. He became involved in the nutritionally complete "future foods" movement in January 2014, originally with a conventional recipe and later switching to a high fat, low carb "ketogenic" variant on October 2014. In January 2015 he created the recipe for Keto Chow and released it without restriction for anyone to use, at the same time he began mixing the recipe up for people that wanted a finished product and has seen steady growth in the business every month since.

Spicy Taco Soup ?? now available!

Spicy Taco Soup; it’s not super spicy, just enough for most people. If you like it spicier you can always add more! Try it with some ground beef, maybe a little onion and some avocado chunks? The Taco Soup works well with just about every fat we’ve tried including: butter, beef tallow, bacon grease, duck fat, heavy cream, avocado oil, and more! We’ve already tested a batch to make sure it mixes up correctly and tastes right, so you can order it RIGHT NOW!

In case you missed it last week, we also received the Beef Soup Base. With the Beef Soup Base, we were experimenting around with different flavors: Clam Chowder, Beef Stew, Hot and Sour Soup, and more. We realized that rather than have it with a flavor, why not just leave it unflavored and let people use whatever they like?! So make soup, use it to bake, throw in some ground beef, go really nuts and mix it like a hot shake =); think of the Beef Soup Base as a blank canvas waiting for you to have fun. Without anything added it still has a nice beef flavor thanks to the beef bone broth protein. Works well with just about every fat we’ve tried including butter, beef tallow, bacon grease, duck fat, heavy cream, avocado oil, and more! It’s also passed QA and ready for ordering.

Facebook Live recording from May 21, 2019

Every week we do a live broadcast where we answer questions, talk about fun stuff, and more! Here is the high-quality recording straight from the camera

This week we talked about:

  • Pumpkin Spice is on sale this week
  • Miriam is back from Connecticut
  • Mixing: if it’s too thick YOU NEED TO ADD WATER. Yep, it’s seriously as simple as that!
  • Mixing with butter. It’s seriously awesome and fixes any problems you might have. Clumps? Butter!
  • How many days does Keto Chow last mixed?
  • Can you mix with coconut oil using the same method as butter? Absolutely. For that matter, you can use any “hard fat” the same way (bacon fat, tallow, lard, etc…)
  • Why would you want to use a saturated fat?
  • A few people maybe might like snickerdoodle =). Other people don’t!
  • When does weight loss start?
  • Why is Keto Chow so salty?
  • Official Keto Chow entries will be live in Carb Manager in a bit.
  • How to calculate how much fat to use
  • Can you buy Keto Chow with BitCoin? Yes. Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Etherium (ETH), and Litecoin (LTC) are all available in the checkout.
  • How many bags can you have open at a time?
  • Can you blend a whole avocado into Keto Chow?

Flavor of the week: Get 10% off the Pumpkin Spice Caramel 21 meal packs between May 20 – May 26

Until May 26 you can get 10% off the 21 meal “week” size of the Pumpkin Spice Caramel 2.1.  Check out the flavor reviews of Pumpkin Spice Caramel.

We sometimes get asked: “what can I do with Keto Chow besides make shakes?” The best place to start is our Keto Chow Recipes page. Here is several recipes that happen to use Pumpkin Spice as an ingredient:

YYou should check out the reviews of Keto Chow, We also get a lot of reviews on our Facebook page and on our SubReddit. Here’s a product review from our site:

My keto kids love it!
I’ve been keto for four years now and brought my family along on my journey, and I am always looking for ways to get some healthier, keto-compliant nutrition into my picky kids. They both love Keto Chow shakes, and ask for one for breakfast on most weekdays. I don’t feel the slightest bit of guilt allowing them to drink Keto Chow because of the fabulous nutrient profile, good quality protein, and healthy added fats they get from the shakes.

Here’s another review, it should be noted that I publish all of the reviews that come in – bad or good – as they are, typos intact. The only ones I remove are spam posts from people wanting you to buy pills to “enhance performance” and such.

Best shake meal ever!!
Since starting KETO, there are some days I just don’t feel motivated to make lunch.. This is the perfect meal on those days! My husband and I both take shakes to church on sundays in a cooler bag. We love to have them for lunch before we get groceries. They are delicious!!

The Fate of the Top Secret Product

To start off: the RTD and the regular Chocolate powder you mix from the bag are EXACTLY the same thing – just one was mixed with 41% heavy cream and pasteurized. Frankly, I like it better mixed by me with salted butter.

Keto Connect just did a review of the “Top Secret Product” prototype we had manufactured back in November 2018. For those unaware: it was a “Ready to Drink” version of Keto Chow with the fat already mixed in, shelf stable for a year, 50% of your daily nutrients in each bottle, cool stuff. We had it made by a local(ish) company but they only had two sizes available:

  • Teeny tiny juice box size – would give you 1/6 of your daily nutrients
  • Massively gigantor 32oz size – half a day’s nutrients

With a ketogenic diet, it’s simply better to eat fewer times during the day – small frequent meals and/or snacking can stall you out and only serves to keep insulin elevated throughout the day. We decided on the big bottle with 1000 calories in it since it more closely aligns with what I would consider a better eating pattern.

I want to pause for a second and point something out: a 1 quart container of regular 2% chocolate milk has 780 calories with 95g of sugars, 19g of fat, 30g of protein. I think it’s odd that most people would think there’s nothing weird at all about someone drinking a 32oz bottle of chocolate milk, but just about faint when they would read the nutrition info on the RTD bottle of Keto Chow. Odd.

So, we had the prototype batch manufactured. We stuck labels on them, so they would look decent, and started sending out free bottles to people that ordered over $200 (and therefore qualified for free ground shipping). It was a good learning experience. We learned how to ship liquid without people knowing what the surprise was, or expecting a certain level of service so when (not if) something went wrong, they were generally super chill about it and just excited to get the bottle. We decided we wanted to do an actual production run and have them come in cases of 6. So I contacted the manufacturer so we could get the packaging printing (in Spain!). And waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Finally, we learned that Tetrapak, the people that make the multi-million dollar aseptic packaging machine, had discontinued support of that machine and it was being sent back to Europe. Dang. So now we’re looking for an alternative solution. Dry powder is still our core competency and WAY less expensive to manufacture and ship; but we want to have an RTD product. It took nearly a year to get the last prototype ran, I expect it’ll take that long again to find another place to do it; ideally in a mid-size package so it can be 3 a day instead of gigantor massive bottles.

As for the original prototype run? They’re all gone. I sent some of the final ones we had left to Keto Connect, mostly because every time they review Keto Chow they seem to mix it up wrong ? – wanted them to try it the way it’s MEANT to be!

Here’s our Facebook Live from March 27, where we explain the issue and such (in thinly veiled terms). I’ve fast-forwarded it to the point where we talk about it.

Keto Chow pizza crust - by Maggie Huynh @theketogenicmermaid

This recipe comes from Maggie: I did something today. Something even my 3 year old likes! When it comes to keto foods using almond flour or coconut flour, my kids steer clear, won’t even try things at first glance. But this pizza right here doesn’t look keto at all, and she actually wanted to try it. I was like SCORE! She kept coming back for more too! #momwin? Before I start rambling here’s the recipe. I used my favorite, @ketochow?

You should check out the reviews of Keto Chow, here’s a “taste”:

Amazing shakes
I think I’ve tried every low carb meal replacement shake in existence and I was ready to give up. Keto chow is absolutely the best tasting shake I’ve ever had, even compared to high sugar shakes. I feel sated. Truly the best shake I’ve ever had and I don’t say that lightly.

Here’s another review, it should be noted that I publish all of the reviews that come in – bad or good – as they are, typos intact. The only ones I remove are spam posts from people wanting you to buy pills to “enhance performance” and such.

Keto Chow helps stay on course..

Keto Chow has allowed me to stay on course with my new way of eating and continue my goal to lose weight. I pack 2 or 3 shakes in my cooler and out the door I go! I make my shake thick, it’s Simple, convenient and with the right fat source very filling and satisfying. Thank you Keto Chow!

Most Popular Flavors of Keto Chow – Leaderboard Update

I did a post back in January showing the most popular flavors of the large 21 meal bags – seasons change and so do buying patterns. Here are the current standings for most popular flavors based on sales from January 1 to May 7, 2019.

Of note: last time we had not had the samples available for quite some time so there was a possibility the numbers were skewed towards more “known” flavors. The “Seasonal” Flavors (Pumpkin Spice and Eggnog) showed higher sales percentages.

Anyhow, thought you’d all be interested.

Update: Here are the sales for the different flavors over time, the top 8 sellers in the first image, bottom 8 in the second.

The tastiest meal replacement you can get!
I’ve been keto for 1.5 years. Just tried these for the first time last week. I have enjoyed every single flavor I’ve tried. I have made these with lactose free hwc, butter, avocado oil and mct oil to test the effect on flavors. To my mind all taste really good! I’m going to try a whole month of just keto chow after reading some of the blogs on it. Thanks for the great product!
