On on /r/keto /u/rhoymand has done a series on testing his blood sugar response to various foods (here is one on a Quest Bar). I’ve been curious what effect Keto Chow has on blood so I got a glucose meter (cheap as free!) and some test strips (holy cow, these are expensive!). Today I did a test of blood glucose levels, sampling every 15 minutes from 08:45 to 14:00 (aka 22 holes in my fingers). During this time I drank a breakfast and then a lunch bottle of Keto Chow. I had intended to start this fasting but forgot and ate some beef jerky around 8. Doesn’t seem to have had an effect on the results but I’ll probably run this again in a month or so. Here’s the result:
The last few times I’ve had my blood checked by a lab I’ve been 79-87 mg/dL glucose while fasting. Anyhow that’s a pretty negligible change. At least in my n=1 test it looks like Keto Chow doesn’t have an appreciable effect on blood glucose levels. In case you want it, here is the raw data:
Time | Glucose level | note |
08:45 | 96 | |
09:00 | 89 | |
09:15 | 86 | |
09:30 | 86 | Drank Vanilla Keto Chow at 09:40 |

11:00 | 92 | |
11:15 | 105 | |

Yep. That’s been my experience as well. Keto Chow barely registers on my blood sugar levels, which is fantastic!
so n=2 then =)
Thanks for sharing Chris. I diligently track my “fasting glucose” 5-6 times a week as I see strong correlations to that number and my mental apptitude and energy levels. What I’ve been meaning to do is start registering food profiles/time-value series for foods that I often eat. That would include my “bulletproof breakfast”, fry-up lunch (eggs, avocado, and bacon), and having been on Keto Chow for two days I’d probably want that there too.
Every 15 minutes for a day is real commitment. Nice work. What I’m wondering is … Would you be interested in a small web-community experiment where we agree a defined set of “food products”, a testing regime, and some simple way of adding individuals results to the database? I love n=1 experiments but I’d love to make n into bigger number for my favourite metric (glucose).
This is very cool, but isn’t the insulin response more important? Dairy protein, I read, raises insulin levels almost as high as glucose (~80% of max spike), which cuts of fat burning, which is probably what most KetoChow customers care more about than glucose (except the diabetic ones!)
Love KetoChow!
That’s whey protein and it’s why we don’t use it.
i’m a 62 yr old type 2 and this is the first time I’ve ever seen anything like Keto Chow; how cool is this! I cannot wait to try it and in fact, just ordered my first bulk packet. Can’t wait to see the A1C numbers although I’ve pretty well controlled mine for some time now, just by fast walking twice a day. I’m excited and thanks for putting forth this GREAT effort to help us!
I drank my first keto chow shake this morning, during the first hour after awakening. I made the basic shake with heavy whipping cream. I was shocked to see my blood sugar rise. 115 on freestyle sensor, 127 on blood monitor and an hour after keto chow, was at 154 on sensor and 168 on blood! I was quite shocked. I am a borderline Type II. What would cause such a jump? I am wanting to do these shakes twice a day, but need to not have jumps like that.

So many factors could affect this so it’s hard to say for sure. We would encourage you to join our Keto Chow Support Group? There are many users in there that track their blood sugars, etc, and have great feedback based on their experience. https://www.facebook.com/groups/ketochowsupport
