Keto Chow

Clinging with all their might

This entry is part 110 of 131 in the series Ketogenic Diet

OK, so I recently did an experiment where I consumed the same 2000 kCal a day for 6 weeks. I was messing around with the source of the bulk of those calories, mostly using different fats but the final week I substituted out all of the saturated fat I ate the week prior, and instead ate candy. Remember – still the same 2000 calories. I had been losing weight pretty consistently the 5 weeks I was living on fat. I gained weight the week I was eating the same 2000 calories from carbohydrates. It’s all documented ad nauseum on the experiment page, with data, graphs, DEXA scans, and more. I posted about it on reddit and have gotten some rather interesting comments from people who insist that the type of calorie is irrelevant and the only cause for weight gain is eating too many calories and not exercising enough. I’m rather forthcoming with my views on the subject (I think sugar is fattening and fat is not).

Today I got the best one yet. I said:

It’s like saying “Bill Gates is rich because he saves more money than he spends” or “The room is crowded because more people entered than left”. Sounds rather silly right? That’s because it’s the EFFECT and not the CAUSE.

To which they replied:

Bill gates isn’t rich because he saves more money than he spends. He’s rich because he takes in more money than he spends… which sounds an awful lot like calories in calories out.

Wait…. what? I’ve never had anybody actually think that “he makes money” is the CAUSE and REASON Bill is rich (as opposed to his ruthless business acumen and the lucky break he got with licensing QDOS, among other things) but if that’s what someone wants to believe, that’s what they want to believe.

Keto Chow 2.1 update – packaging is printing right now!

This entry is part 109 of 131 in the series Ketogenic Diet

Like literally this very moment. One of the guys sent me a photo of the “Sample all the NEW things” bags that are on the press right now. There was a huge storm this weekend here and the media was delayed, a bunch of their production team came in today (Saturday) to get it rolling out in time. The way they’re rocking it we might have the finished bags by the end of this next week.

So, what does that mean for Keto Chow 2.1? The protein was ordered and should be coming soon. The flavorings are supposed to be on the way as well. Ostensibly everything should be coming together for a relatively quick production cycle but I haven’t been able to get definitive schedules for the filling and such. They are supposed to be doing Chocolate, Peanut Butter, and Cookies & Cream first but as with anything of this sort, it could get delayed for random reasons (like snow storms!)

Guests on another great Keto podcast: Ketonian Korner

Miriam and I (Chris) were guests on another awesome Keto podcast a while ago and it was posted yesterday: Interview with Chris and Miriam Bair Keto Chow

I should have posted about this yesterday but ran out of time with everything going on (live broadcast, replacing the fat in my Keto Chow with candy for an experiment, finalizing packaging for Keto Chow 2.1)

“Flavor” of the Week February 5-February 11: 10% off sale on all flavors of 2.0 samples

This week’s a bit odd but we’re going to do it anyway. For the next week, you can get 10% off the single meal “sample” size of all the flavors. Unlike most of the “Flavor of the week” sales, this one I actually can show a “you got 10% off” message in the cart, it’ll be nice to not have to answer that question for a week =)

You should check out our store reviews on Google, and the reviews of Keto Chow. Here’s a “taste”:

I expected the typical chalky flavor that’s common with any meal replacement powder. I was very pleasantly surprised when I got a flavors that were good with no chalky aftertaste. I prepared as instructed, making the shakes the night before and refrigerating overnight. Will be buying more.

Here’s another, should be noted that I publish all of the reviews that come in – bad or good – as they are, typos intact. The only ones I remove are spam posts from people wanting you to buy pills to “enhance performance” and such:

I have been using Keto Chow for breakfast and lunch, dinner I cook from scratch. As a commercial electrician I was concerned if this could keep me going; it does. I used to rely on heavy breakfasts and lunches, many take out. The combination of health effects and cost made me curious about a better option. Besides take out and fast food I have tried salads, sandwiches, and leftovers, all of which just didn’t quite work. Keto Chow does, I mix two servings the night before have some when I leave the next morning and some more over lunch, with 1 serving of MCT oil I feel good, productive and energetic all day. You know the stuff works when you buy 4 new flavors after your first pack is done. Great job to the Keto Chow group, keep up the good work! Also, no more muscle cramps. Double thank you!

Availability of 2.0 Flavors and Keto Chow 2.1

Sad day – we have run out of the 21 meal “week” size of many of the flavors recently. That means it’s time for me to do a post to handle the “when is it coming back?!” questions – I get it, chocolate peanut butter is fantastic =) We do still have most of them in the sample size.

Short version: Chocolate 2.1 went on sale April 9, the other flavors will take a few weeks to start arriving (updated April 10)

Long version: All of the current supply of Keto Chow 2.0 represents what is left of Keto Chow 2.0.2 and once it’s out, it’s out until 2.1 comes. Here’s what’s going on:

  • Priority #1 is getting Chocolate (and Chocolate Peanut Butter by extension) completed.
  • Once Chocolate and PB are going, Priority #2 is mixing up sample batches for the other 16 flavors. The plan is to get that over to packaging and done so we can have the “Sample the NEW things” for the 10 new flavors (plus the 2.1 samples of the original 8 flavors) already available as the remaining large “week” bags are completed.
  • The Remaining flavors will come in over a month or so, several hundred units of each flavor at a time.

In case you’re wondering, here is the order we’re planning on for 2.1 production:

  1. Chocolate
  2. Chocolate Peanut Butter
  3. Cookies and Cream
  4. Strawberry (Sucralose)
  5. Salted Caramel
  6. Mocha
  7. Vanilla
  8. Banana
  9. Savory Chicken Soup
  10. Natural Strawberry (monk fruit)
  11. Rootbeer Float
  12. Orange Cream
  13. Eggnog
  14. Raspberry Cheesecake
  15. Snickerdoodle
  16. Pumpkin Spice Caramel
  17. Chocolate Toffee
  18. Chocolate Mint

Base Powder is going to be squeezed in there somewhere as space opens up. Samples for the 18 flavors are supposed mixed after Peanut Butter and packaged on a different line concurrent with the rest of the packaging. Dunno when that will arrive but it should be around the time we get Mocha or Banana.

A quick note about the lack of pre-order ability. We don’t do backorders or pre-orders. That’s somewhat for our own sanity but also to keep our payment processors happy. If we go longer than 30 days after taking money without shipping a product, they get rather upset. Do I think we’ll go longer than 30 days? No, but you never know with a new product line like this (see above =).

Besides that, pre-orders would be necessary only if we were getting in a limited quantity and you had to worry about not getting some. Going off past experience, when we get Chocolate, Peanut Butter, the Samples, and the rest of the flavors; we’ll be getting a massive quantity of each. Like 3-4 pallets worth of each. So there will be enough that pre-orders won’t be necessary.

If you’d like to know more about the upcoming version 2.1, check out the Keto Chow 2.1 information nexus where I’m posting updates and additional information. We also have the results of our 2.1 taste test extravaganza if you are interested.

Flavor of the Week January 29-February 4: 10% off sale on Mocha 2.0 week packs

For the next week, you can get 10% off the 21 meal “week” size of Mocha 2.0.1. Check out the reviews of 2.0 Mocha!

Speaking of reviews, you should check out our store reviews on Google, and the reviews of Keto Chow. Here’s a “taste”:

Great products. Easy to understand site layout. The weekly sale on a product is a good reason to keep coming back.

I found this product while browsing the many keto subreddits. Having keto chow on hand makes it very difficult for me to eat “normal food” with my boyfriend because I could eat this all day, every day! I loved all of the flavors in the sample pack with the exception of Strawberry (couldn’t even finish that), but this still gets 5 stars from me because every other flavor tastes like a melted milkshake, even with little amounts of HWC! I love being in control of the amount of fat, and it mixes very well with ON Gold Standard protein. It’s really great to have the option to do “lazy meal prep” (aka pouring HWC, water and powder) and have healthy, filling meals while traveling. KCKO!

Flavor of the Week January 22-January 28: 10% off sale on Vanilla 2.0 week packs

For the next week, you can get 10% off the 21 meal “week” size of Vanilla 2.0. Didn’t we just do vanilla a few weeks ago? Yes, we did, but that’s what we have the most in stock, so that’s what’s on sale =) Check out the reviews of 2.0 Vanilla!

Speaking of reviews, you should check out our store reviews on Google, and the reviews of Keto Chow. Here’s a “taste”:

Amazing product for the price. Doesnt cost much more than the items Chris uses to make it. Ingredients are publicly available. Chocolate Peanut Butter tastes so much like Reece’s is insane.

I was introduced to Keto Chow by a few coworkers who had used it before. I bought the salted caramel and the cookies and cream to try my first week (doing 2 meals a day of Keto Chow, and 1 Keto Meal). The product is super easy to use. I do 1/3 a cup of heavy cream and the rest water for my caloric needs and the shakes keep me SO full. As far as taste, I’m not overwhelmingly in love with the flavors but they aren’t bad. I definitely recommend preparing your shakes at minimum 12 hours beforehand, but I noticed that the longer the time between preparation and drinking, the more the flavors come through. Either way, I bought 2 more bags to continue! Lost 6 pounds my first week and ready to keep going.

I have purchased twice from them so far and both times have been a great experience. Ordering is straightforward and shipping is very fast!!! They let you know what’s going on with your order status every step of the way!!!

I have been sort of stalled with my Keto progress and the winter holidays weren’t helping. Decided to try Sample all the Things! along with 16:8 fasting to jump start me.

I haven’t tried all of the flavors yet, but I’m really happy with the product so far. I use the shake to break my fast and the mixture of the ‘sweet treat’ indulgence feeling and the ideal macros seems to help me keep calorie intake moderate during my feed window.

After three days of this, experienced a whoosh (sudden drop in weight after a stall)! Feels like I’m back on track, cravings are under control, focused and energetic … all the good things are happening. Once I figure out what flavors I like, I plan to order more to keep on hand.

I really enjoy the peanut butter chocolate flavor. I tend to get tired of “shakes” for meal replacements, but this one actually tastes delicious so I doubt I’ll be tired of it anytime soon!

It’s finally happened: we’re doing advertising for realsies

We’ve had a few ads here and there on Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit. We’ve done booths at Keto Con and will be at Breckenridge 2018, plus an appearance at the HVMN get together in San Francisco in a few weeks. Today our ad on the Livin La Vida Low Carb show went live. Best part: I totally got “jimmylovesketo.com”

On a side note, I have 3 suckers subjects that are going to be repeating part of my earlier experiment involving living on just Keto Chow, this time for 3 weeks but importantly, they’ll be doing a week of Keto Chow with Avocado Oil and we’ll see how that affects their triglycerides. I am going to be starting my fatty acids n=1 experiment this Friday with the final test just before Breckenridge, should be cool!
