I changed the Keto Chow labels to include a 3 columns: no cream/oil, 50ml of heavy cream, and for 119ml of heavy cream, representing approximately 454, 1300 and 2000 calories/day (3 meals) respectively.
Here are the new labels, you can expect to see them appearing on packages probably around the time I get back from vacation:
- Butter Cream Toffee Label
- Cafe Mocha Label
- Chocolate Fudge Label
- Chocolate Mint Label
- Cinnamon Bun Label
- Cookies and Cream Label
- Gourmet Vanilla Label
- Pina Colada Label
- Rich Chocolate Label
- Smooth Banana Label
- Strawberry Blast Label
Here are the macronutrients for just 50g of keto chow powder with no oil and no cream:
Hey Chris,
Your blog and ketochow inspired me to move from a LCHF diet onto ketochow, which is just too awesome for words, I love ketosis. I live in South Africa and so it doesn’t make financial sense to order from you online, as I can formulate my own ketchow a lot cheaper.
I wanted to get your thoughts on a few aspects of ketochow, as I have been researching the sustainability and health effects of some of the ingredients.
Personally I try to avoid animal based products where possible. I am not vegan or vegetarian (I enjoy steak), however in an effort to be more sustainable, I have been trying to find replacements for the whey and cream. I got spooked off the whey supplements (body building ones) by reading a few articles regarding cancer and will be switching to hemp seed protein powder. The benefits of this is its an incredibly sustainable crop, and its packed with essential fatty acids. I made my first purchase now of this particular brand:

The cream I am a bit stuck on, its a toss up between coconut cream (90% saturated fats), and hemp milk (not really the correct macro nutrient mix), but we’ll see.
Replacing the above ingredients also moves towards formulating a vegan friendly recipe.
I would love to know your thoughts on the above, and once again thank you!
Regards,
Mark
I’m actually going to investigate Coconut cream more, it sounds like a good fit for those that have issues with milk, thanks!
The Hemp protein looks like it might work, I couldn’t tell if there are any digestible carbohydrates in it though, that would be something to check. You might also want to make sure it has a complete amino acid profile, many plant proteins are missing one or more.
I looked into “Trader Joe’s Coconut Cream” http://purelytwins.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/coconut-cream-facts.jpg – It appears that you could actually work. I calculated for 250ml of this Coconut Cream for a target kCal/day of 1300 (same as 50ml of heavy cream. It ups the NET carbs from 12g to 20g/day which isn’t optimal but should work fine. I’m going to grab some and give it a try, see how it goes.
